In case you somehow didn’t hear the Internet explode last night: Warner Bros. has announced that Ben Affleck will play Batman in the forthcoming Batman/Superman movie, which will also star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane. In the press release, director Zack Snyder said:
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
The as-yet-untitled movie is set for release on July 17, 2015. The Internet seemed to react mainly with a mixture of surprise and horror; I’ll say that since I like Affleck and don’t have much emotional investment in Batman, I personally was surprised but am now interested to see where they go with it. What are your thoughts?
At Comic-Con, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder announced that a sequel is officially in the works – and that it will feature Batman. The movie is scheduled to be released in summer 2015. Henry Cavill will star as Superman; Batman has not been cast yet. From the press release:
Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment, noted, “Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack’s continuing vision for the DC Universe.”
Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con today, breaking the news to audiences there, later said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”
So, who saw Man of Steel over the weekend? What did you think? I was traveling so I haven’t managed to see it yet, but I’m hoping to do so soon. The wildly varying reactions I’ve seen have been interesting.
Warner Bros. released two new TV spots to use now that the movie is actually in theaters:
So, today’s the day – Man of Steel is now in theaters. Are you going to see it this weekend? Did anyone already go at midnight? Did you like it? Director Zack Snyder and the cast did an extensive interview with MTV news, and you can watch nine different videos for it. But here’s one exciting one: a clip from the movie!
