Ben Affleck to Play Batman

Ben AffleckIn case you somehow didn’t hear the Internet explode last night: Warner Bros. has announced that Ben Affleck will play Batman in the forthcoming Batman/Superman movie, which will also star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane. In the press release, director Zack Snyder said:

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

The as-yet-untitled movie is set for release on July 17, 2015. The Internet seemed to react mainly with a mixture of surprise and horror; I’ll say that since I like Affleck and don’t have much emotional investment in Batman, I personally was surprised but am now interested to see where they go with it. What are your thoughts?
