It’s now official that Robert Downey Jr. will be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which I think is news that sounds familiar both because I’d heard the rumors and because I just kind of assume he’s in all the Marvel movies.
After a trailer leaked online yesterday, Marvel decided to release this awesome and atmospheric teaser for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, set to an extremely creepy version of “I’ve Got No Strings” from Pinocchio. What do you think?? The movie will be in theaters on May 1st.
The People’s Choice Awards were given out last night and several adaptations were recognized. On the movie side, Carrie won Favorite Horror Movie and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire won Favorite Year End Movie. Iron Man 3 won both Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie, and its Robert Downey Jr. won Favorite Action Movie Hero.
And on the TV side, Orange Is the New Black won Favorite Streaming Series, The Walking Dead won Favorite Cable TV Drama (and Rick Grimes won Favorite TV Anti-Hero), and Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars won Favorite Cable TV Actress. The Vampire Diaries got two wins, with Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor for Ian Somerhalder and Favorite On-Screen Chemistry for Damon and Elena. Congratulations all!
Iron Man 3 is headed to Blu-Ray and DVD on September 24th, and Marvel has released a new TV spot to advertise this. It mentions that the DVD and Blu-Ray feature a Marvel One-Shot, a gag reel, and an exclusive look at the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. Amazon is taking pre-orders for Blu-Rays and DVDs.
Good news, Tony Stark fans! Marvel just announced that Robert Downey, Jr. has officially signed on to play Tony Stark/Iron Man in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. Phew. The Avengers 2 is scheduled for release in May 2015.
Two sleeps until Iron Man 3! Or actually, for many of you who are going to a midnight showing, one sleep. (Confession: I’m thinking about a Sunday matinee, because I am old.) Here’s a short but sweet TV spot timed for release week:
If you need a little more, watch this thorough 10-minute interview from SuperHeroHype with cast members Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, and Rebecca Hall. It includes the phrase “public-sector superhero,” which is the best thing I’ve heard today.
And thanks to ABC Family, we’ve got another little featurette with commentary from Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow:
I keep joking that we’re getting a new Iron Man 3 video daily, but at this point, I guess it’s less of a joke and more of just . . . what’s actually happening. So! Today, IGN brings us a new featurette that focuses on Robert Downey Jr., James Badge Dale, producer Kevin Feige, and writer/director Shane Black talking about the Extremis technology that causes Tony Stark to get involved in events as Iron Man in this movie. Enjoy, and then head over to HitFix to read a Q&A with Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Ben Kingsley about the possibility for future sequels and more.
