I had somehow missed that there’s a movie adaptation of Margaret Mahy’s great YA novel The Changeover in the works, and I’m very excited but also a little worried. So far the cast includes Timothy Spall, Melanie Lynskey, Charlie Heaton, Lucy Lawless, Erana James, Stefania LaVie Owen, and Jamie Curry. The main character in the novel is part Maori and I’m hoping they preserve that, though I don’t know if that’s Owen’s role. (I also don’t know James’s age or background, so maybe that’s her.) I was just trying to look this up and discovered that James and Owen are both from New Zealand – at least according to the Internet – so that’s a start.
Tim Matheson and Cynthia Nixon will star in National Geographic Channel’s newest Bill O’Reilly adaptation, Killing Reagan. I’m sort of surprised that I’ve only seen one “Nixon Playing Reagan” headline so far.
National Geographic has started casting for the second of its TV movies based on Bill O’Reilly’s historical books. According to The Hollywood Reporter,Rob Lowe (The West Wing, Parks and Recreation) will play President John F. Kennedy in Killing Kennedy, with Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love, Once Upon a Time) playing his wife Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Tractenberg (Buffy, Gossip Girl) in the role of Marina Oswald, the wife of Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.
“We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists who have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material,” said Howard T. Owens, president of the National Geographic Channels, in a statement announcing the news Tuesday. “With Killing Kennedy, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, National Geographic Channel continues to bring daring, culturally significant television events to our growing global audience.”
Thoughts? Do Lowe and Goodwin look suitably Kennedy-esque to you?
In the wake of the History Channel’s success with their miniseries The Bible, which has its finale this weekend on Easter Sunday, others are planning to get into the game. National Geographic Channel is following up their successful Killing Lincoln production (and forthcoming Killing Kennedy) with a third adaptation of Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s series, this one Killing Jesus. Meanwhile, Michael Landon Jr. is writing and producing miniseries Jesus of Nazareth for MPCA. Neither production has begun casting yet, so hey, any ideas? Who would you cast as Jesus, Mary, Pontius Pilate, and other iconic figures?
