Despite the silly #4Droughtlander hashtag – Tobias Menzies’s apology as he said it was delightful – this little featurette with Ronald D. Moore, Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies, Sam Heughan, Graham McTavish, and Laura Donnelly definitely upped my interest in the second half of Outlander‘s first season! I enjoyed the first half more than expected, but it looks like the second might be even better. Balfe said that, as far as the Claire/Jamie relationship, these episodes focus on “what it means for the two of them to stay together, rather than get together,” and I’m always happy to see those themes dealt with. And there’s the promise of more politics! Whee! Outlander returns on April 4th.
In this new video from Starz, author Diana Gabaldon, showrunner Ronald D. Moore, and stars Caitriona Balfe, Graham McTavish, Lotte Verbeek, Sam Heughan, and Tobias Menzies talk about their experiences making Outlander. Not for the first time, Moore makes a point of saying he’s not trying to ruin the source material, which is an interesting touch and perhaps a nod to the very enthusiastic fanbase. Outlander premieres on August 9th.
In this adorable video, Outlander cast members Sam Heughan, Annette Badland, Nell Hudson, Graham McTavish, and Gary Lewis wish viewers a happy New Year and explain a bit about Scottish New Year’s traditions.
We had a bunch of casting news for NBC’s Carlton Cuse pilot based on graphic novel series The Sixth Gun yesterday. It’s a “supernatural Western which follows the story of six mythical guns, each with its own other-worldly powers.” Laura Ramsey (She’s the Man, The Ruins) was cast as lead Becky Montcrief, who reawakens dark forces when one of the guns resurfaces in her hands. In addition, Graham McTavish (24, The Hobbit) and Aldis Hodge (Leverage) were cast, according to Deadline. McTavish plays “Silas Hedgepeth, wielder of the Fourth Gun and General Hume’s most Loyal Lieutenant. Hodge plays Agent Mercer, a PI looking for the missing guns.”
And over at ABC, Devin Kelley (The Chicago Code, Covert Affairs) has been cast in The Returned, based on the novel by Jason Mott. Her character Gail Garland is “a tough, attractive and smart doctor at the local clinic in Arcadia with an inquisitive nature. Daughter of the local sheriff, her mother Barbara died 30 years ago in the same accident that killed an 8-year-old boy. Against her father’s wishes, she teams up with Agent Martin Bellamy to get to the bottom of the mystery.”
